Summary
Sweden is facing criticism for deporting British citizens who failed to apply for post-Brexit residency on time. The government insists its policy complies with the EU withdrawal agreement, despite cases involving people who have lived in Sweden for decades.
Between 2021 and 2025, Sweden issued 2,490 removal orders to UK nationals, about 33% of the EU total. While defending the current system, the government says it is considering measures to make the process easier in the future.
