Summary
The Swedish government has announced changes to migration rules affecting international students with residence permits for studies. The new measures are scheduled to take effect on June 11, 2026.
Under the new rules, students will be required to register their Swedish address after arriving in Sweden. There will also be limits on the number of hours students can work while studying. In addition, students will need to earn more academic credits than before in order to maintain or extend their residence permits.
The changes also require family members of students below the doctoral level to pay application and tuition fees if they study in Sweden.
