Summary
From 5 October 2026, all valid Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for New Zealand’s Parent Resident Visa were consolidated into a single pool under a new hybrid selection model.

Under the new system, approximately 90% of EOIs will be selected in date order through a queue, while around 10% will be chosen through a random ballot. The annual limit remains, in principle, at 2,500 visa approvals.

People who held a valid EOI on 5 October 2026 do not need to take any action. Existing EOI holders will be informed of their queue position once the final ordering and transitional arrangements have been completed. As queue positions are still being finalised, applicants are asked not to contact Immigration New Zealand about their position and to wait for direct notification.

The first selection round under the new hybrid model is scheduled for 10 November 2026, with further updates to be provided through Immigration New Zealand.

Note: EOI (Expression of Interest) is a preliminary registration through which a person expresses their interest in applying for the Parent Resident Visa and provides relevant information before making a formal visa application. Submitting an EOI is not itself a formal visa application; applicants proceed to the formal application process after their EOI is selected.
