Summary
The Finnish government announced plans to review the income threshold requirements for family reunification and has launched a project to prepare amendments to the Aliens Act. In the future, the required income levels for proving sufficient financial resources would be set by government decree rather than by Immigration Service (Migri) guidelines.

The government said it will consider the effects of the income requirements on labor availability and public finances, but emphasized that the thresholds will not be lowered. In Finland, family reunification generally requires families to be financially self-sufficient, and the rules were already tightened last summer.

The project also includes proposed legal changes that would allow Migri to proactively share information with authorities when it suspects labor exploitation, with the aim of improving prevention and enforcement efforts.

In addition, the government plans to prepare amendments related to payment cards provided to asylum seekers, people under temporary protection, detainees, and victims of human trafficking who do not have a municipality of residence.
