Summary
In the United States, USCIS has issued updated guidance clarifying the adjudication process for family-based immigrant visa petitions under the Immigration and Nationality Act. Effective immediately, it applies to all pending and new Form I-130 petitions and consolidates previous guidance into Volume 6 of the USCIS Policy Manual. The update emphasizes verifying the authenticity and legal validity of family relationships, outlines eligibility criteria, filing procedures, documentation requirements, and explains the handling of multiple or related petitions. It also specifies when the Department of State may accept petitions directly from U.S. citizens abroad, how approved cases are routed to the National Visa Center if adjustment of status is ineligible, and when interviews are required. Approval does not grant immigration status or protection from removal, and USCIS may issue a Notice to Appear if the beneficiary is otherwise removable.

In Ireland, the government has launched a public consultation to review the occupations eligible for employment permits, aiming to address skill shortages and support economic growth. Employment permits are based on two lists: the Ineligible Occupations List, which includes roles with sufficient labor supply in Ireland and the EEA, and the Critical Skills Occupations List, which covers shortage roles eligible for permits. The last review in 2023 added 11 roles to the Critical Skills list and made 32 eligible for General Employment Permits. The current consultation invites stakeholders to provide input on skill gaps and labor market needs between July 23 and September 19 via an online form.
