In the southern Italian city of Matera, police have filed reports against 72 individuals for allegedly aiding clandestine immigration. The investigation, conducted by Italy’s Guardia di Finanza (financial police), uncovered 5,119 illegal requests to bring non-EU nationals into Italy under the "decreto flussi" for 2023 and 2024. The system targeted workers for agriculture, animal husbandry, and tourism sectors. The individuals involved in the fraud included business owners and managers of tax assistance offices. The applicants came from Bangladesh, Morocco, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Senegal, Egypt, and Albania.
