Summary
On October 6, 2025, the Libyan Government met with its Italian counterpart as part of the Rome Process to discuss joint projects aimed at addressing illegal immigration. According to Libya’s Foreign Ministry, the meeting is part of the Government of National Unity’s broader strategy to manage irregular migration.

Both sides emphasized the need for collaborative approaches and sustainable development to tackle migration challenges. Libya and Italy co-chair the Migration and Security Working Group under the Rome Process, which was launched in 2024 to coordinate migration policies among countries in Africa, Europe, and Asia.

The Rome Process focuses on addressing the root causes of irregular migration in both countries of origin and those affected by migration flows.
