FY2024 International FPCJ Webinar: Population Decline and Immigration Policy: How Can Japan Become a Country To Be Chosen?
Release Date

Media

Summary
In June, revisions to the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act were enacted, leading to the replacement of Japans foreign technical intern trainee system with a new training and employment framework. This new system aims to train foreign workers and facilitate their transition to Specific Skilled Worker visas, encouraging long-term residency in Japan.
As Japan faces a declining population and an aging society, foreign workers are increasingly essential to its economy and society. However, comprehensive discussions regarding immigration policy, including Japans future as a multiethnic and multicultural nation, have been lacking.
To address these issues, a webinar will feature prominent foreign journalists from countries such as South Korea, Vietnam, and France, who will share insights on immigration challenges. The discussion will involve Japanese experts examining the policies Japan should adopt to attract more foreign workers.
