More than 1,100 Canadian employers participating in nationwide forums said that while immigration remains essential to addressing labour shortages, the current system does not effectively connect skilled newcomers with available jobs. The employers called for practical reforms, including a national one-stop information hub, faster and more consistent credential recognition, and expanded support for small and medium-sized businesses. The authors argue that Canada is losing billions of dollars in productivity by failing to fully utilize the skills of immigrants already in the country, and that employers want effective, practical systems rather than political slogans.
