Summary
Canada’s planned “In-Canada Workers Initiative” aims to transition up to 33,000 temporary workers to permanent residence during 2026–2027. Since most permanent residence pathways require valid language test results, foreign nationals with expired or soon-to-expire scores are encouraged to retake official immigration language tests as early as possible. Similar past programs, such as the 2021 TR-to-PR pathway, filled quickly, leaving applicants without valid test results unable to apply.

Language proficiency scores are also important for programs such as Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs. In addition, valid language test results are required for post-graduation work permit (PGWP) applications, and missing results can cause applications to be returned as incomplete, potentially leading to loss of status. CELPIP tests are widely available across Canada, with quick results and flexible retake opportunities.
