Summary
Hungary has announced that it will stop issuing worker visas to citizens of Georgia, Armenia, and the Philippines as part of efforts to control the inflow of foreign guest workers. The government argues that large numbers of foreign workers may suppress local wages and is ending a simplified recruitment procedure previously used by employment agencies. Existing permit holders will still be able to renew their permits, and applications submitted before the rule change will continue to be processed.

The decision follows a similar move by Poland, which ended its simplified employment procedure for Georgian citizens in December 2025, citing political developments in Georgia, EU discussions on visa-free travel, and declining demand for such permits. At the same time, Georgia has also tightened access to its labor market by restricting foreigners from working in courier and taxi services and making it more difficult for companies to hire foreign workers. These developments reflect a broader trend of governments prioritizing local employment over foreign labor.
