Summary
The Israeli government has approved the immigration of 1,200 members of India’s Bnei Menashe community by the end of 2026, with an additional 4,600 to arrive by 2030. This plan is expected to bring the entire community to Israel and reunite families. The new immigrants will settle mainly in Nof HaGalil and other northern cities as part of a regional development strategy.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the move an important Zionist step aligned with the government’s policy to strengthen northern Israel. The decision was initiated by Netanyahu and Aliyah and Integration Minister Ofir Sofer, together with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Minister Zeev Elkin.

A multi-agency Israeli delegation will soon travel to India to assess eligibility for immigration under a 2007 decision that permits entry for conversion and naturalization. After approval by the Chief Rabbi of Israel, community members will enter the country on A/5 temporary residence visas.
