Summary
On a Sunday in June, two opposing demonstrations were held in Dublin City: an anti-racism rally and an anti-immigration protest. Gardaí temporarily closed O’Connell Bridge and set up barriers to separate the groups and prevent clashes.

The anti-racism rally, organized by United Against Racism, began at Central Plaza and marched to the bridge, chanting slogans such as “Refugees are welcome here” and carrying signs like “Blame the government, not migrants.” The anti-immigration protest, which had a larger turnout, featured Irish tricolour flags, "Make Ireland Great Again" caps, Trump flags, and chants like “Whose streets? Our streets.”

Tensions were high, with both sides shouting and gesturing across the police barricade. At one point, the anti-racism group played the Irish rebel song “Oro ‘Sé do Bheatha ‘Bhaile,” which some in the anti-immigration group applauded and sang along to.

There was a significant Garda presence, including mounted units and officers from outside Dublin, ensuring public order. One officer noted he couldn’t provide directions as he was not from the local area.
