Starting April 1, application fees for several immigration procedures in Japan will increase by up to 50%, due to rising prices and personnel costs. This marks the first fee hike in over 40 years for some procedures. Fees for changing residence status and renewing the period of stay will rise from ¥4,000 to ¥6,000 for in-person applications, with online applications priced at ¥5,500. Applications submitted by March 31 will still be charged the current fees, even if approved after the price increase.
