Summary
Japan’s Immigration Services Agency will begin joint on-site inspections with other ministries this autumn to strengthen enforcement against illegal employment of foreign nationals. Starting as early as October, immigration officials will join transport ministry inspections of demolition contractors, with similar inspections of automotive yards also under discussion.

Immigration officials will be able to check workers’ residence cards and identify those working without proper status—something other ministry and municipal inspectors cannot do. Suspected illegal workers may be ordered to report to immigration offices, while inspection findings could also trigger investigations into employers. The initiative forms part of the Takaichi administration’s broader crackdown on illegal residence and employment.
