Summary
A Spanish tourist praised Singapore after clearing immigration at Changi Airport in about five minutes, compared with roughly two hours in China and one hour in South Korea. He also praised Singapore’s fast and reliable MRT system, claiming that Europe is “more than 20 years behind Singapore.”

Singapore allows foreign visitors, including first-time travelers, to use automated immigration lanes without prior enrollment. As part of its New Clearance Concept, the government aims to reduce passenger clearance times by about 40%. Following the introduction of passport-free biometric clearance across Changi’s terminals, average processing time fell from 25 seconds to just 10 seconds. Nearly 127 million travelers cleared immigration without presenting passports in 2025.

Changi’s efficiency has received international recognition. In 2026, it was named the world’s best airport for immigration services and won the overall World’s Best Airport title for a record 14th time.

Singapore’s public transportation is also highly reliable. The MRT has recorded no delays exceeding 30 minutes since November 2025, while service delivery and punctuality have remained above 99%.

The country’s broader efficiency is reflected in the 2026 IMD World Competitiveness Ranking, where Singapore ranked first among 70 economies, including first in business efficiency and third in government efficiency.
