Summary
A new Napolitan News Service/RMG Research poll shows that most Americans still view legal immigration positively, though support has declined since late summer. In a national survey of 1,000 registered voters conducted Nov. 12–13, 67% agreed that “legal immigration is good for the United States, but illegal immigration is bad,” down from 74% in August. Another 17% said both legal and illegal immigration are bad, while 10% said all immigration is good.

Support also fell for expanding legal immigration pathways in sectors with severe labor shortages. Sixty-four percent said it is “very important” to create legal routes for foreign doctors and nurses, compared with 71% in August.

The findings come as the Trump administration accelerates immigration enforcement during its first year back in office, highlighting a sharp decline in the foreign-born population. The administration attributes this to mass deportations, visa-fraud crackdowns, and an indefinite freeze on refugee admissions—policies now facing legal challenges and criticism from several major US cities.
