Global Immigration Recap: June 2025
Release Date

Media
WR Immigration
Summary
Israel has automatically extended all foreign nationals’ visas valid as of June 12, 2025, until September 30, 2025, due to disruptions caused by recent closures. No action is required from visa holders. Delays in processing new and renewal applications are expected.
Spain introduced a temporary waiver for re-entry permits at land and maritime borders through September 30, 2025. Foreign nationals with expired residence permits can re-enter Spain without a re-entry permit if they present a valid passport, the expired permit, and proof of a renewal application. Air travelers still require re-entry permits. Additionally, Madrid now requires proof of local residence (certificado de empadronamiento) for EU registration certificates. Government fees for immigration services were updated in June.
Poland implemented major immigration reforms effective June 1, 2025. Posted workers must meet stricter eligibility criteria, including ties to the posting entity and valid contracts. All work permit applications are now online, with fast-track processing for key sectors. Labor market tests are removed, but some occupations may be protected. Visa holders from other Schengen countries can no longer work in Poland, and employers face increased compliance requirements. Blue Card rules were relaxed, and incidental remote work from Poland is now allowed without a permit if not tied to the Polish economy.
Malaysia will suspend access to its Expatriate Services Division (ESD) system for six months for companies that submit non-compliant applications. Offenses include falsified information and document fraud. Reinstatement after the suspension will depend on a compliance review.
Canada is launching a new employer portal for the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) on July 2, 2025. Employers must re-register Expressions of Interest (EOIs) in the new system. In Quebec, immigration levels are being reduced. The Quebec Experience Program’s Temporary Foreign Worker stream remains suspended, and French language requirements will be introduced in late 2025. Quebec will also begin targeted invitations for permanent residency focusing on French-speaking individuals in high-demand occupations.
Vietnam will require work permit applications and other administrative procedures to be submitted via the National Public Service Portal starting July 1, 2025. Companies must register for a VNeID to access the new system.
China introduced a new five-year multiple-entry business visa for ASEAN citizens, allowing stays of up to 180 days. Spouses and children may also be eligible.
These updates reflect significant changes in immigration compliance, digitalization, and enforcement across multiple jurisdictions, requiring careful attention by employers and foreign nationals.
