Summary
English summary of the June 19, 2025 immigration update:
Canada has extended its Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) until December 31, 2025. This program offers skilled refugees and displaced individuals a pathway to immigrate and fill labor shortages in sectors like healthcare, construction, and food services. Since 2019, 970 people have been admitted, with over 30% working in healthcare. For 2025, up to 950 applications will be accepted under the job offer stream.
Finland implemented new employment-based residence permit rules starting June 11, 2025. If a foreign worker loses their job, they have 3 to 6 months to find new employment, depending on their role and time spent in Finland. The residence permit must remain valid during this period. Employers are now required to notify authorities within 14 days if a foreign employee leaves their job. Unemployed permit holders can now seek work in shortage sectors without applying for a new permit.
Sweden updated its salary threshold for work permits based on new median wage data released on June 17, 2025. The new median salary is SEK 37,100, so applicants must earn at least SEK 29,680 per month (80% of the median) to qualify. This applies to applications submitted from June 17 onward; earlier submissions will be assessed under the previous salary criteria.
