Summary
As of June 2025, several significant immigration and visa policy updates have emerged across key regions:
United States:
The Trump administration has suspended new student visa appointments while preparing to expand social media screening for applicants. This is part of a broader clampdown on universities, with actions like federal funding freezes and revocation of institutions’ ability to host international students. Additionally, President Trump has announced a full entry ban on nationals from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, and Yemen, and partial restrictions on 7 others, effective June 9, 2025.
China:
China is expanding its visa-free access policy to include all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries—Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Saudi Arabia—from June 9, 2025, to June 8, 2026. This follows similar agreements with the UAE and Qatar. Additionally, visa-free access was granted to citizens of five Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay) starting June 1, 2025.
Philippines:
The Philippines has introduced a visa-free entry policy for Indian nationals who hold valid visas or permanent residence permits from Australia, Japan, the US, and other select countries (AJACSSUK). Eligible Indian travelers can stay for up to 14 days (extendable to 21 days) if they meet certain conditions, such as holding a valid passport and onward travel tickets.
Poland:
Poland has reformed its labor market laws to modernize employment services. Changes include more flexible jobseeker registration, age-neutral access to support tools, and digital job-matching systems. A new law on foreign employment replaces outdated procedures and mandates that employment contracts be submitted before work begins. Enhanced digital systems and stricter compliance measures will take effect from August 1, 2025.
These updates reflect a global trend toward tightening immigration controls while selectively facilitating foreign talent and tourism based on national needs and strategic partnerships.
