Summary
From October 1, 2026, Immigration New Zealand will stop accepting paper applications for 24 Visitor Visa categories and the Transit Visa. Applicants will generally be required to use the Enhanced Immigration Online system.

Paper applications submitted before October 1 will continue to be processed, while exceptions may be considered for people unable to use the online system. The enhanced platform is designed to simplify document uploads, provide real-time application tracking, tailor questions to applicants and reduce errors through features such as automated passport data capture.

Some categories, including visas for refugee claimants and trafficking victims, are not yet affected. The change also does not affect travelers from visa-waiver countries using the NZeTA.

The reform is part of New Zealand’s broader transition toward fully digital immigration processing, aimed at improving efficiency, accessibility and application management.
