Sweden introduced stricter **"good conduct"** requirements for residence permits on July 13, 2026. The rules mainly apply to work- and family-based residence permits outside EU law, while most EU-based permits and asylum cases are exempt. Although authorities say minor or isolated incidents will not normally affect applications, critics argue that the new law is too vague and could undermine legal certainty by allowing decisions based on non-criminal behavior.
