Summary: An experimental study by Statistics Poland found that about 1.1 million third-country nationals were employed in Poland as of August 2025, accounting for 6.7% of the country's workforce. The European Commission highlighted this as evidence of the growing importance of migrant labor to Poland’s economy.

Ukrainians make up 67% of migrant workers, followed by migrants from Belarus, Georgia, India, Colombia, and the Philippines. However, around 38.5% of migrant workers are employed under civil-law contracts that provide fewer labor protections, raising concerns about job security and long-term integration.

Migrant workers help address labor shortages in sectors such as construction, manufacturing, healthcare, transport, and IT. While many Indians work in IT, retail, and manufacturing, many Filipinos are employed in labor-intensive industries. At the same time, many migrants view Poland as a gateway to higher-paying jobs elsewhere in Europe.

To improve labor migration, Poland has introduced legislation to digitize work permit procedures, strengthen enforcement against illegal employment, and better protect foreign workers. It has also signed a social security agreement with India. However, reports of exploitation involving some Filipino workers—including deceptive recruitment practices, excessive fees, poor working conditions, and document confiscation—highlight the need for stronger oversight and worker protection.
