First-time applications now take around 17 weeks (up from the standard 10 weeks).

Renewal applications take about 12 weeks (up from 8 weeks).

Applicants are advised to plan accordingly, as their residence cards may expire before the new ones are issued. If an application was submitted on time and deemed admissible, individuals can obtain a temporary residence document (“Annex 49”) from their local town hall, allowing them to legally remain in Belgium while awaiting their new card.
