Technical Intern Training III b

The "Status of Residence: Technical Intern Training (iii) - Category B (ロ)" is the final stage of Japan's Technical Intern Training Program under the organization-based (supervised) model. This status is granted to foreign nationals who have successfully completed "Technical Intern Training (ii) - Category B" and continue to acquire more advanced specialized skills under the management of a supervising organization. The maximum stay allowed under this status is two years, during which interns can deepen their practical and specialized skills by training at multiple companies.

The differences between Technical Intern Training (i), (ii), and (iii) mainly lie in the skill level being acquired and the duration of stay. Training (i) focuses on basic skill acquisition with a stay period of generally one year. Training (ii) involves more practical and applied skills and allows for an extension of up to two additional years after Training (i). Training (iii) is aimed at further mastering and solidifying advanced skills and is only available to those who have completed Training (ii) and meet certain eligibility requirements. Altogether, the program allows for a maximum of five years of training.

The difference between "Category A (イ)" and "Category B (ロ)" is in the method of acceptance. Category A refers to the company-based model, where the intern is directly employed and trained by a single company. Category B refers to the organization-based model, in which a supervising organization manages the intern’s stay and places them with one or more companies. Therefore, "Technical Intern Training (iii) - Category B" means that the intern acquires advanced skills under the supervision of a managing organization while training across multiple companies, gaining highly specialized practical experience.
