International Organization for Migration
Summary
On April 29, 2026, the Government of Norway and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) held high-level talks in Geneva to strengthen cooperation on global migration and displacement challenges. As migration routes become more dangerous and displacement increases due to conflict, instability, and economic pressures, both sides emphasized the need for coordinated and practical responses.
The discussions focused on humanitarian assistance, migration governance, organizational reforms, route-based approaches, and long-term support for migrants and displaced people. Both parties stressed the importance of rights-based, people-centered, and multilateral solutions.
IOM praised Norway’s continued commitment to human rights and evidence-based migration policies, while Norway reaffirmed its dedication to international cooperation and protecting the dignity and safety of migrants and affected communities.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue close collaboration in addressing evolving migration challenges and delivering sustainable outcomes for migrants, displaced persons, and host communities worldwide.
