Greece: Significant Immigration Reforms Include Tech and Talent Visa, Liberalizing EU Blue Card

Summary
Greece implemented changes to its immigration law on February 6, 2026, to attract highly skilled foreign talent. The reforms introduced a Tech Visa for foreign nationals working at registered tech start-ups and a Talent Visa for individuals with advanced university degrees who wish to enter Greece to search for employment. Both visas are valid for 12 months and may be converted into an EU Blue Card if eligibility requirements are met.
The EU Blue Card system was also improved, with its validity extended from two to three years and the post-expiry application window expanded from one month to three months. In addition, a new Specialized Technical Personnel visa allows foreign workers to transfer from companies abroad to Greek companies for major projects lasting up to 12 months.
Other changes include reducing the minimum work contract requirement for standard work permits to six months and extending the period foreign workers can remain in Greece after losing their jobs. These reforms aim to strengthen Greece’s ability to attract and retain skilled professionals, particularly in the growing technology sector.
