Immigration Advocates Protest Detention of Former TIME100 Listee Jeannette Vizguerra

Summary
In 1997, Jeanette Vizguerra moved from Mexico City to Colorado, where she became a janitor and immigration reform advocate. Twenty years later, she became one of the most influential people in the world. However, she was recently detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) amid President Donald Trump's intensified deportation efforts.
Vizguerra gained prominence in 2017 when she sought sanctuary in Denver churches and won a two-year deportation delay with the help of Colorado lawmakers. She later sought shelter in a church again in 2019 after her deportation stay expired. Her immigration struggle began after fleeing Mexico due to her husband's repeated armed robberies.
Although she was convicted in 2009 for possession of forged documents, which she used for work, a judge allowed her to stay under ICE supervision. ICE is now trying to deport her based on a deportation order, which her lawyers argue is invalid.
Vizguerra, the mother of three U.S. citizens and one DACA recipient, has been a vocal advocate for immigrant rights, and her case highlights the broader issue of immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, which expanded deportation priorities. Supporters are now calling for her immediate release, stating that her detainment is unjust.
