Immigration enforcement operations ramp up in cities across the U.S.

Summary
President Donald Trump has launched large-scale immigration enforcement operations targeting immigrants with criminal backgrounds. These operations, which took place in multiple cities including Chicago, resulted in 956 arrests, the highest single-day number under the Trump administration. Among those arrested were individuals convicted of serious crimes like murder and sexual offenses, as well as gang members. However, concerns remain that immigrants with no criminal records may also be detained.
ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) aims to prioritize public safety by deporting individuals with criminal histories, but arrests without criminal convictions are expected as well. Trump has rescinded previous guidelines that protected "sensitive locations" such as schools and churches, and raids may take place in these areas on a case-by-case basis.
Reports indicate that ICE is aiming to increase arrests to between 1,200 and 1,500 per day. Local leaders, including Chicago's mayor and Illinois' governor, have expressed mixed reactions, supporting the deportation of violent criminals but opposing the targeting of law-abiding immigrants. Additionally, the DEA is collaborating with federal agencies in immigration enforcement operations in multiple states.
